Containing information and scans of over 3,600 coins, these pages are to be a resource for students of Near Eastern, Persian, Indian, Central Asian and Chinese history from 600 BC to 1600 AD. Permanent exhibits with emphasis on Sasanian, Hunnic and Central Asian coinages. Check back often and reload everything because I'm adding all the time. Begun in July, 1996, I've resigned myself to the fact that this will take the better part of several dozen more years to complete. Oh well.

A word about image and thumbnail sizes: in late 1995 when I began this project, I was using a dial-up account with a 9,600 baud modem. The time to load a screen-sized image was substantial; I made the decision to make my thumbnail images 70 x 70 pixels, obverse-only, and to link to separate 300 x 300 pixel obverse and reverse jpgs (small, but not too small; essentially the size of the entire screen of a Mac Plus) so that even those with the most primitive computer setup would be able to load a page or image without waiting more than a minute. And remember most early monitor resolution was 640 x 480 dpi! Well, times have changed (an understatement -- even the most basic internet access is now more than 100 times the speed of my original setup). Since the beginning of 2006, I have been adding new images at 1250 x 625 pixels (both obverse and reverse together), thumbnails at 300 x 150 and have upgraded all the old, smaller thumbnails. As of today (July 20, 2010) approximately two-third of the images are of the 1250 x 625 pixel variety.
